RU58841 Raw Powder 10g (2x5g)

RU58841 is an androgen receptor blocker. It binds to androgen receptors with great specificity and tenacity, but does not activate the receptor. Its presence on the receptor prevents androgens such as DHT from binding to and activating the receptor. It has been extensively studied as a topical agent to treat acne and androgenetic alopecia (1, 2, 3).

Androgenetic alopecia, or male-pattern balding, is caused by DHT binding to androgen receptors in the hair follicles. Over time, in susceptible individuals, the activation of the androgen receptors causes the hair follicles to stop producing normal hair and to undergo a process called miniaturization. In laboratory studies, RU58841 has been shown to be quite effective in competing against DHT for access to the androgen receptors.

When applied topically, RU58841 prevents DHT from triggering the androgenetic alopecia process. Its presence increases the replication rate of the matrix and outer root sheeth cells, resulting in an increase in hair diameter and density. In skin treated with RU58841, a significantly higher ratio of the hair follicles remain in anagen, the active hair-growing state. Consequently, the balding process is aborted and thicker, healthier hair growth occurs.

Because it is applied topically to only the scalp, it has no systemic side effects and does not affect the hormonal balance of the body. Clinical studies have not reported any side effects from its use other than occasional reports of skin irritation from the solvent. As such, it has major advantages over systemic anti-androgen agents like finasteride. In addition to being safer, many users report RU58841 is as good or better than finasteride at stopping hair loss and promoting hair re-growth.
